More pads from a VSTi. Be sure to play with special effects like wah wah and adjust the LFO, resonance, and wetness to really explore the palette. Here’s a sample of what you can accomplish with free software like Audacity.

I created this using an FM synthesizer based VSTi. I then did some heavy tweaking in Audacity.
Use it as an interesting textural element.

This one also from the VSTi FM synthesizer. I love the depth of sounds available with this. This is kind of spacey, so it can be used in songs with that kind of atmospheric theme. I would recommend some dark hip hop, psytrance, maybe some gabber, some rock, techno, and electronica.
