This a nice floorkiller that’ll rumble and tear up the boards under your feet. Again made using a soft synth, a freeware VSTi.

This is a deep bass sound sample for audio production. Again I started with a freeware VSTi, I don’t remember which one but I’ll begin making more notes about those in the future. It’s got some kick with a little drip to it so it’d be good as your regular bassline tone. I lowered the overall amplitude and then boosted the bass using Audacity and I am pretty happy with the result.

Here’s another squelchy acid techno bass hit from the classic Roland TB-303. This cries for tweaking the cutoff and resonance and filtering it thru an LFO. Can anyone counter with a good 808 kick to knock it with?

This is another Roland TB-303 like sound that comes out a little buzzy. For now, I am switching to .WAV format for my samples. This is going to improve the quality of the samples. txfm740 called to my attention that the .MP3 format was adding an additional 0.025 seconds of silence at the beginning of the sample. I agree this is not acceptable. We’d like to use an open source format like .OGG, but unfortunately it’s not very universally accepted in music production software, however we’re interested in your feedback. Again this was made using a VSTi and edited using Audacity.

I’ll probably run with the Roland TB-303 for a couple of posts. This is a great instrument that can make some incredible sounds. Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman) is known for using multiple TB-303’s with some special modifications for his sets to help define his sound. I’ll continue to post most of mine without much consideration for effects. This will make it easy to load into your sampler and apply your own LFO, reverb, delay, etc.

t0db0t and I were talking over the weekend about some excellent classic sounds, and one of my favorite’s came to mind, so I thought i’d share my expressions of the excellent Roland TB-303 for a little bit of acid house and acid techno flavor. While I don’t have a TB-303, I made this using a VSTi that rather faithfully reproduces the sound. I then used Audacity to boost the bass sound, and then amplify it.
